Why fleets still struggle

The cost of how it’s done today

Joiner familiarisation done on a paper sheet is inconsistent and rarely provable, yet it is a core ISM expectation before crew take up duties.

The traditional approach

A familiarisation form signed and filed in a cabin, with no fleet view of who is outstanding or overdue.

With WaterTightVM

What changes when this is under control

SMS familiarisation checklists by rank for joiners, reliefs, and visitors—spaces, equipment, and emergency duties—completed and signed on ship or mobile, with a vessel compliance overview.

Time back

Templates by rank issue the right pack automatically to each joiner instead of being assembled by hand.

Less waste

Standard fleet templates replace per-vessel paper forms and the admin of chasing signatures.

Lower risk

Signed, locked completions and a compliance overview prove crew were familiarised before operating equipment.

Questions before you commit

Can familiarisation be completed on mobile?
Yes. Assigned packs can be completed on the crew app, with completion queued offline where needed.
Is a supervisor signature supported?
Yes. Items can require supervisor verification and countersign before the Master accepts full familiarisation.
What happens after a major refit?
You can re-run partial familiarisation so crew are re-familiarised where spaces or equipment changed—rather than relying on an old pack.
Does this replace ISM familiarisation duties?
No. It records and tracks familiarisation aligned with your SMS. Ensuring crew are genuinely familiarised remains the Master's and company's responsibility.
